Reporting a result that looks wrong

Every guide on this site ends with an invitation to tell us when a result does not match your hardware, and those reports are the main way pages get corrected. They are much easier to act on with a little detail, so where you can, include:

• The page you were on, and which tool you were running.
• Your browser and version, and your operating system — a lot of hardware behaviour differs between Chrome, Firefox and Safari, and between Windows and macOS.
• The device itself: the make and model of the mouse, monitor, controller or headset involved.
• What you expected to see, and what the test actually reported.

If a test reported something you believe is wrong, that is worth sending even if you are not sure. A reading that looks like a fault is sometimes a browser limitation rather than your hardware, and knowing which is which is exactly what we want the guides to get right.

Suggesting a tool or a guide

If there is a check you keep doing by hand, or a fault you could not find a clear answer for, tell us. Requests that describe the actual problem — "I cannot tell whether my monitor is running at the rate it claims" — are more useful than a feature name, because they usually reveal that the real gap is a guide rather than a tool.

What we cannot help with

We are not able to repair your hardware, diagnose a specific machine remotely, or advise on a warranty claim with a particular manufacturer. The guides cover what the tests can and cannot prove, and where a claim is best directed, but the claim itself is between you and the retailer or maker.

Privacy

The tests themselves send nothing anywhere — audio, video and input stay in your browser. Email is different: anything you send us arrives in an ordinary inbox, so please do not include passwords, licence keys or anything you would not want in an email.
